2008 we started the first ever Irish Wheelchair Rugby League. It was a great success and saw the development of some potential new national team members. It was decided that we would make the league a yearly event with league and training weekends held throughout the country to help with the recruitment and development of wheelchair rugby players and support staff.
The Coloplast league made its first trip across to Ireland for the latest round of games in April. The weekend started off on Saturday morning with the Gaelic Warriors facing Stoke Mandeville Storm. Hosting the weekend gave the Warriors a chance to bring along some squad members who were unable to travel to the previous league weekends in England and Wales.
Our first game of the weekend was against the Rhinos on Friday morning. We knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough one as the Rhinos had 3 G.B. Paralympic players on their line up. We managed to go goal for goal for most of the first quarter which gave us a good confidence boost.
