Match day 4 seen the final pool match take place in a very hot Sports Centre Třebešín. With a place in the semi finals for both teams already guaranteed this match would decide who would top Group A. With the French ranked 9th in the world, 13 places above Ireland, they were the favourite to take the victory but this is a very different Irish side to the one that crashed out of the European Qualifiers 2 years ago in Gormanstown.
Ireland took the game to Austria from the tip off, pushing them into a number of errors within the first few minutes and finished the first quarter with a commanding 7-point lead. The Irish High-Low Line Up took charge of the game with great speed and power shown by Alan Dineen and Thomas Moylan. Captain, Alan Lynch, led from the beginning with great communication and pushed his side to extend the lead throughout the second quarter.
The Irish Wheelchair Rugby Team played their opening game of the 2015 IWRF European Division B Championships against Italy. After taking an early lead Ireland went on to dominate and exact revenge for their defeat to the Italians in the 2013 European Qualifiers. Ireland's High Low Line had a great opportunity to gel on court with some great work between Thomas Moylan and Alan Dineen.
Following a brief Opening Ceremony with welcomes by the Czech Ministry of Youth, Sport & Culture and Jen Sauerbier, IWRF Athletes Representative the first game against home team, Czech Republic and rivals Poland got underway.
The Irish Wheelchair Rugby team arrived safely in Prague to compete in the IWRF European Division B Championships. Today the team had a training session with a friendly match against old rivals Czech Republic.
It was great to blow out the cobwebs a bit after travel yesterday and was just what the team needed to get themselves back into competition mode. Last training session and classification tomorrow before their first game on Tuesday morning against major rivals, Italy. Having recently played and beaten Italy at home in in Rome during the Six Nations, Ireland are looking forward to taking it to the Italians. The Irish Team will have three pool matches to make it through to the final knock out stages of the Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
