Saturday morning Gaelic Warriors1 vs Canucks got underway and it was a great game to watch with the Warriors really stepping it up against the Canucks. There was great display of skills from both teams and at half time the Canucks were just 1 goal up, the Warriors had a great 3rd Quarter and by the end of it they were 2 goals up and the Canucks were looking worried as the winner of this game was in the semi-finals it was all to play for. The 4th and final Quarter again was a great spectacle but it wasn’t to be for the Warriors this year and in the end the score was 38-43 to a very relieved Canucks team. This loss meant the best place we could now finish was 5th and that’s where we set our sights. Our next game was against the Reds 2 (POL) who had beaten us in the 2010 Final the previous year. Revenge was in everyone’s mind and it showed on the court from the aggression of the Warriors game play. We were soon on top in the game and dominated them from start to finish never letting them settle into the game the final score was 62-34 in the Warriors favour. This great win meant the Warriors played in the 5th/6th place play off against Stade Toulousain (FRA) on Sunday morning.
Sunday morning arrived and the game was set to start against our good friends the French but there was nothing friendly about the play in this game with both teams wanting to win their final game of the weekend. Stade Toulousain got off to a good start and put the Warriors under real pressure from the word go, but the Warriors were well up for a tussle and gave as good as they got. By the end of the 1st Quarter the Warriors were down by 1 goal but still fighting hard for everything. The 2nd Quarter did not go well for the Warriors as there were basic mistakes made and Stade Toulousain went further into the lead. The Warriors had a good 3rd Quarter and worked well together as a team pressing and forcing some turnovers and by the end of the 3rd Quarter they were 5 goals behind. The 4th and final Quarter got going and the Warriors kept the pressure on hard giving everything they had to try turn the game around. This final hard push by everyone worked and turnovers and goal seem to come at every opportunity at this late stage of the game. The Warriors had manage to claw the lead back and eventually got ahead the final score was Stade Toulousain 48-51 Gaelic Warriors1 which seen the Warriors finish in 5th place.
