These Open Trials are an opportunity for any athlete participating in Wheelchair Rugby to try out for the Irish Development and National Squads. All athletes who wish to participate in the Open Trials will also need to undergo Classification. Following Classification ONLY players who are classifiable within the 0.5 - 3.5 Classification will be considered for Development and National Squad. In order to participate in competitive Wheelchair Rugby outside of the Irish League individuals must have impairment in at least 3 limbs and meet the following eligibility criteria in order to undergo classification:
- Athletes with tetraplegia due to spinal cord injury and neuromuscular conditions such as poliomyelitis, muscular dystrophy and various types of central and peripheral nervous system conditions.
- Also, athletes with conditions, such as multiple amputations, congenital limb defects and other similar musculoskeletal conditions may be eligible if impairment type and severity results in activity limitation that impacts sport performance in a similar way to that of an athlete with tetraplegia.
All volunteers who wish to participate in training need to complete the Volunteer Training Application Form. Volunteers may only participate in one area of training, so please select the training you are most interested in. For Classifier Training you must be a Medical or Allied Health Professional. For Table Official, Referee or Coach training no previous experience of specific experience or qualifications are required.
