The Third Year of the Irish League, Now 4 Provincial Teams! The 2010 Irish Wheelchair Rugby League got off to a great start in Cork on Sunday the 14th March. The first game was between Leinster and Munster. Munster had a great start to the game on their home turf and were well ahead after the 1st quarter. Leinster played better in the 2nd quarter but were still down at half time. The 3rd quarter was a closely fought battle and Muster finished the quarter ahead by just one goal, the 4th quarter belonged to Leinster who finally got in front and won well in the end.
The second game was between Connaught and Ulster this game started at a high pace and Ulster forced Connaught to make some mistakes in the 1st quarter and had a good lead by the end of it. No-one wrote Connaught off after just one quarter as they have a mix of experienced and new players with lots of speed. Ulster knew this so kept the pressure on and went a few more goals in front by half time. Connaught had a good start in the 3rd quarter and got a few turnovers but Ulster were still ahead by the final whistle of the game.
The third game started shortly after lunch and with both teams looking for the 1st win both Connaught and Munster were well up for it. Munster had the better start and made the most of the chances they got to pull ahead in the 1st quarter. Connaught settled after the 1st quarter and made a game of it but Munster hung on to the lead till the end to claim the victory.
The fourth and final game between Leinster and Ulster was again a very close game with both teams working well together and producing some nice plays. But in the end the mighty Ulster used the red hand to steal the game and their 2nd victory of the day which put them top of the league after the first round of games.
