The 2nd game was against The Greeks, who were playing in their first ever competition but having seen them in action earlier in the day we knew we were in for a tough match. The game was won in the first half when The Greeks showed off their superior skills to build up a good lead. We came back strong in the 2nd half but the damage had been done and the better team won in the end. We had lost the game but the performance and attitude from all was greatly improved and we went back to the hostel with a smile on our face and determined to win a game for Team Ref / Masseuse Lorraine Lee who had the misfortune of witnessing the days earlier horror show and wouldn't get to see any more of the games.

The final group game was against Valhalla Warriors Black, who despite only having 4 players made us fight for every point. The Rooney Scully tag team finally started to gel and their double on the Valhalla playmaker laid the foundation for a strong defensive performance. Valhalla came back strong but the Three Amigos Bernard Rooney, Sean O'Driscoll and Dan O'Sullivan were determined not to suffer defeat again and upped their game to finish with a convincing 9 point victory.

Our win put us into the 9th to 12th play offs and the first team to stand in our way was Rugbylowen Leipzig. Their pre match tactics of the evil stare as they wheeled by during the warm up both confused and amused us. Team captain Stephen Hickey helped by the pick bar of Finbarr Dorgan dominated the first half and we went into the 2nd half with a double figure lead. The Three Amigos were brought on and safe in the knowledge that the game was won worked on key defence and the give go. Leipzigs pre match demeanour was nothing like their onfield behaviour and the game was played in a good spirit and enjoyed by both teams.

Sunday mornings game was for 9th/10th place against Dragons Frieburg. The day started badly as none of our equipment was in the hall when we arrived. Team Manager Stuart McLindons hairline receded even further as he tried to track the down the equipment, explain to the oppositon what was happening and find the referees, who had gone into hiding. As Stuart drank camomile tea to calm his nerves, Team Hygienist / Mammy Francis Scully and number one fan Debbie helped the team to prepare for the match. The team finished the tournament on a high with a brilliant performance from all the squad. The high low played the first quarter and build up a 9 point lead which the Three Amigos kept until the last quarter when the Dragons came back into the match and some of the players were distracted by the very helpful and neatly dressed energy drink girls. The match will be remembered though for Dan O'Sullivan dominating his opposite number and pulling off some great passes. As the final whistle blew screaming young girls in hot pants surrounded Dan begging for his autograph.

The weekend started badly but we moved on and by the end were playing some excellent rugby. Hopefully next year all the squad will be able to attend team training so that we can fully prepared for the challenge ahead. Everyone played at least two quarters a game and we've all come back better educated about the great sport that is Wheelchair Rugby.
